Hi!

If a want a good resolution mosaic (for a large print), do I need a high resolution original cell images? I have to scan several photographs and I'm not sure about the scan resolution (normally the output cell image is smaller than the original image).

You should to know printing resolution. If you want to print in 300 DPI, and you know size of cells in mosaic, for example 2 inches, your cell images should be 600 DPI. If you use greater cell images they must be resized.

I don't see that the resolution of a cell would ever have to be greater than 300dpi unless the mosaic is doubling the size of each cell (from the original). I haven't experimented too much (I usually keep the photos at 300 dpi out of habit), but I would guess that a smaller resolution, say 150, would be appropriate.
